What larks we had.

You'll never guess what we made today, what with it being January and not Christmas anymore at all, and everyone looking forward to the Spring! We made mince pies! And honesty I have a marvellous excuse, I do. Over the whole of the Christmas period I had a sum total of three mince pies and not one home made, not a single one. I had copious amounts of chocolate, (one can never have too much chocolate especially rose and violet cremes) but no Christmas cake and hardly any mince pies. How tragic is that. So my daughter and I made some and I enjoyed eating mine, I did. I'd try to post a picture but I am pretty sure most of you will be sick to the back teeth of mince pies and pictures of mince pies.
Oooh the postman came today, I do love the postman som
e days and today was one of those days. Not only did I get three items for my daughters birthday (sidenote: 23 Jan. I only had her at this time of year so I could go to the sales) which I thought would take a lot longer, I also received another two of the books I won on ebay and I have fallen in love with one. It is old but I don't know how old, old enough to be politically incorrect, sadly that is what comes with old reading material. I think it might be from around WW11and it's tiny! teeny tiny, size enough for a doll to read. Packed full of advice it starts with 'The home made doll is no longer a frumpy rag bundle without charm or character. It is a gay, cuddlesome playmate, and has the advantage over many of its ancestors of being unbreakable'. and 'now we come to stuffing. The ideal material is (let us not be too delicate!) old shrunken woollen underwear'.
The illustrations are adorable and remind me of the drawings my Mum used to do for me when I was little.
Also sadly I was watching something on ebay but it went out of my price bracket so instead I shall have to just sit and look adoring at the picture.

info: complete in the box: material, instructions on how to make the dress, prestuds, needles, scissors, thimble, elastic, 3 reels of cotton. Original material to make a dress for a doll approx 17' tall. The material has the pattern printed on the reverse side.

Sigh sigh why do things always appear on ebay when I have no funds with which to purchase them!

Because if they appeared when you could afford them you would buy them & part of the fun of ebay is the dreaming, the frustration and then going off to sort out the next best achievable thing!

Love the idea of mince pies in January. My ma used to make matrimonial pie which is apple and mincemeat mix. Mmmm.
