Madline by Gaslight having a nap

So both kids are back at school and I am like a zombie. Too much burning of the candle at both ends! On Saturday night, ones daughter decided she wanted to make a cover and pillow for her Madeline doll (she says she is too old for dolls now, shame, but Madeline holds a special place in her heart) and as she had bought some felt she was going to make it out of that. So I taught her blanket stitch and she got the hang of it beautifully, but then of course, who stayed up until three finishing it off. And who thought that poor naked Madeline could do with a new nightdress... and how about some knickers and a headband just to top it all off. Yes me. And then last night I had a stack of ironing to do, nearly up to the ceiling it was, so I cried my way through Sense and sensibility and ironed and ironed and ironed (being careful not to iron the tissues that I had to keep using).
It's all caught up with me though and so this morning I am dragging myself around, nodding off every five minutes. I worked on the children's ward of the local hospital as an Auxillary for a while before my Dad got ill and I had to get up at the crack of dawn and go into work, and now I feel like I did then, on auto pilot. Tonight I am determined to get an early night!

Thanks for your comments, I had forgotten about Gaslight, how could I forget Gaslight! The first time I saw it was at the theater, and I was quite young (my parents believed in taking my brother and I to the theater when we were little) and when the lead (Paula) heard the footsteps ringing out above her, oooh I was chilled to the very bone. Unfortunately the film has never had quite the same effect for me but I do love it.
I have decided my ideal job would be to sit and watch old films all day, preferably eating rose and violet creams. Is there such a job, and if so, can you point me in the right direction.
What? there is, sit myself over over there in that big squishy chair?..... Oh hang on, I think I'm nodding off again.

Hi jennie,
I am having my blog half hour now, before the storm ( my two getting in from school !). I like them being off but equally like them at school so I can have "me" time. We have a madelaine doll here too, they are so nice.My daughter is 10 (very grown up ten )and she is not so keen on her dolls now.Sounds like your Madelaine is well dressed ! I do try and make her play dolls though!. I was doing ironing too this morning but felt worse this morning from that sugar overload yesterday! a sugar hangover I think !. Those Rose& violet creams sound nice, I have never tried them and didnt know about them. I love your nurse picture. I remember putting plasters on dolls!. Thanks for the gaslight picture. My dad when I was little used to take me to ballets and I loved it, but being so little then I always looked forward to the interval and ice - cream!
take care x

Never read Larkrise to Candleford, but I always assumed it had something to do with getting up early!

I was terrified of Gaslight when I was little - all that London fog! However I was also terrified by 'Whistle Down the Wind' so I must have been a right wimp!

Oh, I LOVE that movie. But it is always disconcerting for me to see Charles Boyer in a scary role... he seemed like he would have been a sweet man in everyday life.

Obviously, I'm going to have to add Gaslight to my list of must see movies.
