Having a thrifty couple of days.
Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes for my daughter. I showed them too her and she was over the moon! She had a good day (My mum bought her a cake! she felt sorry for me!) By far the best present she received was a hamster from her Grandparents. She is called Clover, she is nearly seven weeks old and she is gorgeous! Lets just hope the cat doesn't eat her. (She also has the most fantabulous cage called 'The pink palace, which takes up most of my sideboard!)
Anyway I have been doing a bit of thrifting, I love that word 'thrift. Here we call it 'going around the charity shops' which just does not have the same ring to it.
My absolute bargain of the week must be a pair of shoes. I had previously seen them in Marks and Spencer's but their £39.50 price tag was out of my range. As I walked into the shop I spotted a pair of these shoes, my size and when I picked them up, they still had the price tags on the bottom and had not a mark on the soles! Price tag £3! So I grabbed them in a vice like grip and looked around the rest of the shop.
I also got two books, one a nostaglia 'Remember when' book I have had out of the library on numerous occasions, and another one on dollmaking (see pic). (Both cost a pound). Inside is a veritable feast of dolls to make, some easy some not so easy.
As well as books and shoes, I also got two embroidered pillowcases, and one tray cloth, beautifully embroidered with little dancing people.
Oh and I also got some really vibrant vintage 1950's kitchen curtains but I will take pictures of those when I have decided what I am going to do with them. A friend of mine who has the same taste as me, saw them at the exact same time as me, we both dived for a curtain each saying 'ooh look at these!' I batted my eyelashes a bit and he gave up and actually bought them for me! Oooh the things a gal will do for a bit of vintage fabric!

Oh, I'm so envious...those shoes are gorgeous! I have a jacket in that colour, it's really very striking.
I think I should come on one of your shopping trips with you, by the way. You find such beuatiful things...I'd be in heaven!!
Saying hello ffrom across the pond- for now!
hi Jennie,
I am glad your daughter had a lovely birthday. I am sure Clover will be very happy with his new mum!. My son Lewis has a hampster and i cant stop picking it up, they are so cute the way they cup things in their hands and eat.
The shoes are lovely & a very good price too. I love it when you find something you have liked new in a shop and then find it in a charity shop for a fraction of the price. The pillowcases and tray cloth have a lovely pattern.
I hope you had some cake too!, I am tying to be good at the moment and resisted the urge for tracle sponge pudding & custard as I am a stone heavier than I was this time last year, no pain no gain for me!, .
I watched a portrait of Dorian gray today as well which was good have seen it before
have a great weekend x Dominique
Looks like you got some bargains. And don't go round batting your eyelashes at male shoppers. You never know where that sort of behaviour might end up.

Happy Birthday to your daughter!
Those books look like fun! I love decorating books, dollmaking books and children's story books.
The thrift shop we had near us is gone, I enjoy thrift shops and antique shops, I am thinking this weekend to go downtown and browse around.
A hampster! I had a hampster when I was little, oh, what happy memories! The "pink palace" what a image that conjures up! Sounds like your little one must be in heaven with her new furry friend! For over a year we thought that Wally was a boy until we were informed by the vet that "ahem, that is just HER tail." oops! ;)
Oh, those shoes! What a find!
I ADORE the doll you featured from the doll book. I have been wanting to make a doll forever!
