My Mum had a Toni Perm doll when she was little and she passed it on to me. (She looked a bit like those two, but with real black hair!) Unfortunately with these type of dolls they can get something called hard plastic disease (HPD). I read up on it, scientists thought it had something to do with the metal hooks inside the dolls reacting with the plastic, but it could be the plastic breaking down after a long time, and to be honest that makes sense. Anyway sadly my Mums Toni doll has become very poorly, her arms have become misshaped, she's lost her colouring and her eyes have started to get bags under them. I have won another one on Ebay but she is not as such good condition as my mums was,
On Ebay.com they have a listing of over 300 Toni doll items, so I wonder if they survive better in the U.S than here in the UK as we only have a couple listed (under pedigree) and they are not in very good condition. I think I shall stick to collecting Composition dolls. They seem to last a lot longer. I love the Toni doll face though, she's so pretty.
L has become Doll house mad, she is starting a 'dolls house' fund as she saw a gorgeous dolls house when we went to pick up my ebay doll at the doll shop, and now she is wanting to save up for it (She has a dolls house but she's had it a long time and it is a handmade one and not so easy to access). I said she could take charge of the money bottle and make sure any change got put into it, as we tend to leave a lot of small change laying around the house.
She has been busying herself with making food out of fimo and she says she'd like to start buying bits and pieces to go in the house. Here are some of the things she has made
I finally got around to watching Stardust the other day. How annoyed am I now that I did not go to the Cinema to watch it in all it's glory. I now officially LOVE that movie! But then again I am a Neil Gaiman fan and loved the graphic novel of Stardust, so I am biased I guess ;)
I cannot wait until Coraline comes out. L has the book but made me read it first in case it was too scary, the parents with the button eyes... creepy.

I often buy before I think on Ebay, it's the excitement of the last minute bidding!
Nice to hear L is saving up for a Dolls' house, I had one for years and only sold it quite recently as I just didn't have the space for it in my house due to all the other hobbies I'm taking up! She'll have a lot of fun with it, it's a very addictive hobby.
I loved Stardust too, and I didn't expect to. But then I didn't expect to enjoy the book - generally my husband and I don't have overlapping taste in literature - and I thought it was wonderful so there you go. Maybe I should listen to him more often? Nah!
I do the same thing with ebay! I get all anxious and excited and than when it arrives in the mail, my bubble it totally burst! In the heat of the moment, at the tail end I am known to bid far more than I tell myself I would. Than I feel my heart rate go up with the shopping adrenaline. I tell you, I'm a nut about it!
I haven't heard about either of those movies. I will have to look in to it. Oh, and I relate to your dolly dilemma. I don't know what the heck happened to my baby dolls but they look like creepy trolls now!
Did you see the info on ebay re HPD? Here's the link..

I loved reading all about your Toni doll. Sal;-)
Hi Sal, yes I did. that is one of the things I read when I wanted to find out about discoloured hands. I know I read something about it before when my Mums doll started to go funny, but it did take a long time for the doll to get worse, so I had forgotten about it. I'm not too upset about this doll I got, as it could be quite a few years before she gets so bad. You just have to keep them separate from other dolls as it spreads (how weird is that!)
Hi Gill, I want L to be serious about the dolls house and it not be a flash in the pan, this way she'll appreciate it more if she saves up for it.
Dottycookie, I'm glad you loved Stardust. I wasn't sure if I would like it as much as I did. So I was pleased when it held my interest all the way through. (And no, husbands are there specifically not to be listened too aren't they? ;))
Christina, I wonder if your baby dolls got HPD. If they are grouped together, if one gets it, the others can catch it. It makes their faces go quite old looking. (They also smell of vinegar, so if one doll smells of vinegar remove it from the others).
'...very poorly, her arms have become misshaped, she's lost her colouring and her eyes have started to get bags under them...'
Sounds like me. Does this mean I'm a Toni doll?
Love the stuff L has made for the dolls house - she's going to end up as crafty as you.
As for the Father of This Lot, much as it pains me to say it, if he knew you, and you told him you needed a dryer, he'd probably get you one. For a couple of pints, he might even throw in a hoover.
Hi Jennie , love the Toni dolls.
I am like that sentimental too about things.
Great idea for L and her fund. I am doing that for the chicken fund besides I wouldnt just have that amount anyway!. But also I think it makes them be less impulsive and if they really want it by the time it gets to the end of saving time. Then you know they are serious, otherwise they will be like "nah !" and forgotton about it. Mind you I want chickens!.L has made some brilliant things, sounds like one creative young lady.
I havent seen stardust yet!
anyway take care x Dom
I am sentimental too, lovely post.
Stardust is one of our fav films, love it!
Kimxx
Jackie - sounds a bit like me too! At least we don't smell funny.
Dominique - I got the idea from you and the chicken fund :D so thank you!
Casdok - Thank you!
Kim - I am glad other people liked it as much as I did, it didn't get such great reviews I don't think.
Ooh... good book tip. Thanks!
