New Camera, plates and painting.

Hurrah! My mum got a new digital camera and says that I can use it! I just have to figure out how to work it first! (slight update: That is some unknown girl who looks like she is going 'hurrah', not actually me, I'm glad you asked Jackie, can imagine that someone may stumble upon this blog and think 'how very dare she steal my childhood picture and pretend it is her!)
I've been so tired the last few days, I don't know whether it is sugar withdrawal or just being under the weather.
I am very grrr as well. The kids have been hyper and LOUD which hasn't helped matters.
Thank you all for your support on my mission to lose some weight. I am still keeping it up and I do feel that your support does help. I did have lemon meringue pie today after cooking Sunday dinner for my parents, but you know, I am not ruling everything out, I think treats have their place too. Everything in moderation and all that. So you may still see me baking cakes or eating swizzle sweets, I am not giving them up completely. I am just wanting to get my sugar intake back on the straight and narrow and not see it as a way to deal with my problems.
Anyway onto other things.

Do you like these plates?I got them a while ago and I am going to put them up in the summer when I want things to look brighter. I am not sure where they will go, probably somewhere near Audrey.Just have to figure out the best way of hanging them.
I've got a lot of furniture to paint and I'm not very good at it so any advice would be greatly received.
I have a dark wood sideboard to paint in a lighter colour and an old sewing table that I hope to cover with oilcloth at the top and then paint the cupboard doors. And should I invest in an electric sander, as my sanding skills are below average? So many questions, so little time!
I hope you have all had a splendid weekend!!

No ideas on the sanding front, I'm afraid, but your plates are fab!

Very wise not to try to cut out sugar altogether - that way lies sugar binging! I had to cut out sugar and refined carbs for the last three months of my second pregnancy, and was jolly healthy through that, but as a result consumed my entire bodyweight in cake and chocolate in the week after delivery - so that wasn't so good ;-)

Have fun with the new camera! I am doing the Weight Watchers diet and for the first three weeks followed the Core Plan so I didn't eat any sweet stuff but the last week I have been on the Points Plan and have had some treats which has been great! Roll on Tuesday when I find out how I have done!

Oh Jennie, I hope that's you in the first picture!

I agree about the little treats. I could just eat a piece of lemon meringue pie - the Lenten chocolate withdrawal symptoms are really kicking in now!

Love the plates - you need plate hangers. You can get them anywhere.

Thanks for visiting my blog, I love the bunnies you made, they are so cute.

I love painting things but hate all the preperation including the sanding. We have an electric sander and it is better than sanding by hand.

I painted an old table: just sanded it down very thoroughly, a good coat of primer, a couple of coats of paint and three coats of varnish. I'm really pleased with it. Good luck! x

Hi jennie,
Everything in moderation is good, I think somedays you have to have a day off too and pig out !.
The plates are lovely, lots of lovely colours.
I have just taken a table and covered it with oilcloth, it looks good and has got a new lease of life!. Its blue with polka dots the cloth and now my daughter has it in her room.
Yes children do get rather hyper, I send mine up the garden ! if they are too annoying!
X Dominique

Well, I usually just sand a little and do one coat of Kilz (super-duper primer that is supposed to stick without sanding). But... an electric sander would do a great, more professional job and would better insure no chipping later.

I'm no expert but I do paint the odd piece of furniture. I rub down with some fine sandpaper, apply one coat of primer and two or three coats of emulsion. Finish with a couple of coats of quick-drying matt varnish and your funiture is good enough for Laura Ashley. Some people use satin wood paint which elimnates the need for varnish, just personal preference really. Haven't used an electric sander, depnds how perfect a finish you want I guess. Hope you'll show us the work in progress!

I'm terrible about sanding things. I usually just slap the paint on. :)

The trick of course is if the piece has any varnish or laminate surface then you have to sand.

We have a sander but I any time I've tried to use it I end up doing most of the sanding by hand. It never seems to get into the tight spots well.

Jennie,
So sorry to hear you are under the weather, dont let it get ahold of ya girl!!!
Love your plates so colorful and cheery!!!!!!!
When i re-do something i use stripper, its the orange stuff. For large surfaces it works wonders, especially if the varnish is thick and old. Cant wait to see the finished product!!!! How exciting! I love working with wood! I only wish i had a lathe to make wooden dolls! Queen Anne types are yummy dolls!!!!
I once quit eating all sugar, I had never felt so clear mind in my life!!! But i couldnt do, it was killin' me. You are so brave, keep up the good work and keep going!!!!!!!!!
Many 'sugarfree' Dollie Hugs,
Always,
Jackie
