So I've been painting and painting and tidying and cleaning and painting some more.My landing had become a dumping ground for everything, J's bike he never used, L's old dolls house which took up tons of room, an old bashed up sewing table and so many books I could open my own bookshop. Oh and video tapes, we don't even watch anymore. So off to the charity shop they went.
four big boxes of books and videos and one huge dolls house later! The bike went to a friend and the sewing table went downstairs more of that later.
J climbed up a ladder (I just found out I'm scared of heights, who'd have thunk it) and into the loft went four bin bags full of 'I don't know what these papers and things are, but I may just need them one day' neccesary items.
I got some shelves put up, so I could have somewhere to put all my other books that I really couldnt part with, (these aren't my only books, I have another bookcase and shelf full of craft books lol). And J and I painted a really dark wood bookcase white which turned out I thought rather well.

It is somewhere to store my eiderdowns and blankets, box my remaining videos (one's you cant get anymore) and somewhere to put my suitcase and old dolls house.
I am a real nostalgia freak so you will see on this shelf all the things that remind me of my childhood.
The snakes and ladders board that my Grandma and I used to play (very un PC these days LOL), a carved duck and otter that my Grandad made and which my Grandma kept next to her front door on top of a wooden ottoman, I clearly remember her telling me if anyone tried to break in, she'd hit them with one of those as they are so solid!
My dolls from childhood. First love, tiny tears, teeny tiny tears, teeny weeny tiny tears, baby snuggles and Sindys, regretably the sindys aren't my original ones, neither is the baby snuggles.
My friends mother took all of my sindys and their accessories to the local hospital, without my knowledge or consent when I was about eleven, because I had left them at her house. Something I've never quite forgiven her for ;)
So now I like the landing now, because you can see the floor and move onto the bedroom without killing yourself.
And because I got the painting bug, I painted this table my Grandad made and which had seen better days, a nice white (took about ten coats)
and spray painted my sewing table a looovely turquoise colour.
(It has my parents name and address on the back from when they were first married, my mum has told me to get rid of it copious amounts of time as it's seen better days, but you know, I just can't)
So now I need to sew some nice coasters and something to put in the middle of my table and I think I've found the perfect things ....

What a busy bee you've been. I wish I had some of the things from my childhood too. There's nothing wrong with a little bit of nostalgia.
It all looks so pretty, Jennie - well done you (and S, and J). I need to repaint the coffee table - some of the old pain has chipped off :( x
Will you come and paint my manky skirting boards and lounge and bathroom, well the whole house really....... Your hard work looks great.
